There is no recipe for a perfect resolution, but staying true to your nation's position while still being diplomatic can be challenging.
When writing resolutions:
1) Take a look at a few resolutions from the United Nations, to be inspired.
2) Make sure your position is accurate. For instance, the United States would not be backing an expansion of Russia's nuclear arsenal.
3) Set a goal. What is your resolution trying to achieve?
4) Be specific! This is essential; avoid making broad, vague requests. If your solution required money, specify the value and who will provide the money. You can create a new organization, such as an NGO or a new UN body, if necessary!
5) Make sure it is feasible. Asking a third world country to pay to send their garbage to space, for instance, is not feasible, and your resolution will most likely not pass.
5) Ask your chairs if you are not sure how to proceed.
6) Be open to friendly amendments.
7) Merge resolutions and clauses with allied countries before submitting it to your chair, on the day of the conference.
Do not be afraid to ask for help and to present your resolution. In the real UN, many resolutions do not pass, so while your goal is to have a resolution that passes, do not be afraid to take risks to find unprecedented solutions.
