Well written position papers are key to making sure a delegate is knowledgeable about the topics being discussed. In addition, a position paper can serve as a basis for speeches made during the conference.
Position papers should have 3 basic things: a brief summary of the current situation in the issue, the delegate's country's perspective on the issue, and what sort of solution their country seeks.
Things that will strengthen a position paper are:
- Important facts in the world that coincide with the topic
- Powerful statistics that support your argument
- The policies implemented/attempted for the issue (such as UN resolutions, EU directives, etc.)
- Obstacles faced during the implementation of policies
- Solutions to be proposed based on research results and country's policy
